Educational Digital Facilitator

This a full-time position offering a monthly salary of $3,200.

Digital Mi’kmaq will be running enriched programs and workshops focused on introducing students to computer science, coding, big data, animation, robotics, web design, filmmaking, and 3D modelling.

With curriculum developed and supported by subject experts the educational facilitators will be responsible for assisting students by answering questions, keeping them engaged, and providing suplemental instruction when necessary within a classroom setting. 

Instructors will all work as a team in the delivery of our day long enriched STEM focused digital programs. 

Responsibilities for This Role Include:

  • Working well with others in a team based creative environment.

  • Being at ease working with students from elementary to high school in hands-on learning.

  •  Providing mentorship through the sharing of knowledge, digital expertise, technological proficiency and creativity with First Nations students. 

  • Maintaining a strong, consistent, attention to detail in all aspects of program delivery ensuring all students receive great learning experiences. 

  • Participating in all Digital Mi'kmaq training to ensure a high level of skilled competence with our qualitative educational programs. 

  • Being comfortable and adept in learning various digital platforms, programs and technologies employed in teaching various subjects such as coding, animation, big data, computer science, artifical intelligence, short film making and 3D modelling.

  • Establishing and maintaining positive working relationships with teachers, school staff and community members.

  • Participating in data capture and other aspects that highlight student's achievements in support of the programs goals.

  • You have a G Class Drivers License and your own vehicle.

  • You will complete a criminal check prior to being hired.

  • You care deeply about the quality of your role delivering excellence to Mi’kmaq children and youth.

  • You are comfortable working with technology in a creative learning environment.

  • You enjoy and have experience working with youth.

  • You get along well with others and offer strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • You can troubleshoot when the need arises and take a proactive approach to problem solving.

  • You bring solid organizational skills.

  • You are respectful, culturally aware, honest and reliable.

This position will include time in the classroom, as well as travel and preparation time.

Empower and inspire Mi’kmaq youth to learn critical digital skills; gain experience in facilitating and teaching a series of workshops for elementary, middle, and/or high school students; receive training in various technologies, including Scratch, 3D modelling, Artificial Intelligence, and Big Data; build your network of technical and tech-savvy people across the province; share your experience in, and love of, technology and digital skills with First Nations students.

Maker Labs Operational Manager

We are also looking for part-time Digital Room Coordinators in all our permanent Digital Mi'kmaq Maker Labs throughout Nova Scotia.

This is a part-time, $20/hr position for 10-12 hrs/wk. Positions begin December 2018.

Digital Mi'kmaq will be running Saturday and after school programs in various subjects such as; animation, computer science, engineering, big data, short film making, robotics and artificial intelligence and more.

"These programs and clubs will operate out of our new fully resourced Digital Maker Labs established in each community. Room resources include computers, circuitry, building equipment, robots, 3D printers, cameras as well as a variety of other digital and creative materials.

Responsibilities For These Roles Include:

  • Participating in the Digital Mi’kmaq training sessions on the rooms management. Maintaining daily records on the resources in the room.

  • Maintaining a strong attention to detail and commitment to excellence to ensure students on a daily basis have great learning experiences.

  • Ensuring daily, that all the Maker Lab resources are operational for educators and subject experts coming in to deliver programs. Simple things such as ensuring all 2 the laptops are charged and ready to go, and other procedures at the start and close of a day are followed.

  • Managing student and community communications and inquiries consistently and well to ensure that the Maker Labs are happy, dynamic rooms and the needs for the delivery of our qualitative programs remain intact.

  • Inputing data and surveys in areas that capture the number of students utilizing the rooms and the feedback/interest of the programs being delivered.

  • Working well with others and pitching in to support educators as needed in the rooms facilitation.

  • Participating in posting students creativity and achievements to our social media site in support of the educational programs goals.

  • Helping with the team members to organize from a community basis quarterly events and guest visits.
