Digital Maker Lab Clubs


This fall, Digital Mi’kmaq will be starting a the first round of an ongoing series of project-driven programs, starting with Engineering and Animation clubs at on-reserve Digital Maker Lab locations. These clubs are FREE of cost and available for Indigenous youth in grades 7-12.

ENGINEERING CLUB

The engineering club provides an immersive experience that engages youth with the diverse fundamental concepts of the engineering field. Participants will learn not only how to build a drone, but how make their own cell phone charger, an electric skateboard and a whole variety of cool 3D printed projects. All materials supplied. Winning entries will head to Europe and the US competing in some of the world’s best engineering competitions.

ANIMATION CLUB

Aspiring filmmakers will discover the intricacies of animation with a blend of science, art and culture. From flip books to stop motion and 2D to 3D digital software, to discover a world of filmmaking. Youth participants will take on roles such as camera operators, animators, model makers and even voice actors! 

Taught by professional animators, you’ll be completing one film a month and entering films in a variety of international competitions. No drawing or animation experience required.

CYBER SECURITY CLUB

Knock it out of the park with this hands-on cyber security club and learn how to analyze threats, risks, strategize and deliver solutions to a whole series of realistic evolving cyber attacks. Paid summer interships provided to those who complete the challenges working with some of the best in Canada and the world. Technical proficiency not required.
